Yeah, and yet I don't think that does much to stop the FBI from sharpening their claws, that just seems like a tantrum on the hackers part :/ I mean yeah they were gonna attack those sites in retaliation there was no surprise in that, it doesn't get megauploads back though

but if its based in Hongkong, how the HELL can the FBI interfene? i mean isnt that outside even THEIR district??

The US know this will only hurt themselves, right? I mean, I don't care much, since they have no jurisdiction in Canada, but they'll lose Google, YouTube, and pretty much every major site. They'll just relocate. And if they actually used the Internet, they'd see this is a bad idea.

And the FBI is only internal affairs. They can rage all they want, but they can't touch the hackers. Besides, they'll most likely pull a Sony and do nothing for 5+ weeks.

Anonimus being mostly British based, or so i have heard, not like the FBI can do anything against them, if sony already took a 5 week blow from it, still i suppose that wont fix things when they lash out like that..

still its times like these that i enjoy living in Europe ^^ though our goverment is right now doing all it can to take down the Pirate Bay from us, by making the providers disallow the acces to the sites...this plan ammuses me so much..like you can actually have a grip on the internet

when the internet just came arround, our country was sooo unprepared, you could deal drugs, weapons and even the unwanted kind and very dangerous to even mention, kind of ponography over the internet, state your name, and still they couldnt touch you

but times change i suppose..

on topic yes it sucks that megaupload has gone down >.< It shall be missed and i do agree that america is shooting itself in the foot with this SOPA bill, as if their economy doesent already have enough trouble

mmh, true but if you look at the housing crisis they had, yes it affected us but nowhere near as badly thanks to canada not deregulating our banks

What really hurt us was the "Too big to fail" auto companies.

I've only been to Canada once to see Niagara falls with my mom and grandma... fun times~ Not that Niagara is much of an indicator for the rest of Canada it was a pretty small place from what I remember~ but yeah ;P

Taking down Megaupload was Un-SOPA related. The FBI has been building a case against the site for a long time. So yeah, the feds went and arrested the top dog from the site, a man living in a massive mansion in New Zealand I believe.

On the SOPA front, discussion on the bill has been postponed due to a thumbs down from President Obama and the massive public backlash, which was seen in full force a few days ago when Wikipedia and several other sites went dark for the day.

Unfortunately, Representative Lamar Smith of Texas says the fight is not over, and has also started the Protecting Children From Internet Pornographers Act of 2011 or H.R. 1981. This bill will allow the government to track people's private internet histories (particularly on purchases made online) in an attempt to "protect" the children.

Don't know if anybody answered this yet. However, the reason they could take it down is because while Megaupload is based in Hong Kong with major bases in New Zealand, they had a server or something in the US. This made the US apparently able to take down the entire thing. (This is what I heard)

Wow, I think other upload sites are panicking about this, I was trying to download the latest HxH and the sites the ddls were uploaded to had already either taken them down or suddenly changed their upload download policy's... guess lying low isn't a bad idea for them but still wow
